The mission of the City of Lakes AmeriCorps
Program is to help ensure all our children succeed both socially
and academically regardless of race, culture, ethnicity, native
language, gender, poverty level, disability, or any other
status.
Our goals are to help youth improve
academically, develop leadership skills, and increase assets.
City of Lakes members are placed in the Minneapolis Public
Schools to provide tutoring, mentoring, service-learning, and
enrichment programming for K-12 students.

Essential qualification to participate in City of Lakes
AmeriCorps:
- Two full time years of college or the equivalent, such
as an associate's degree or 60 semester credits
- Manage student behaviors 1:1, in small groups, and large
groups; work effectively as part of a team and as an
individual in a fast paced environment; communicate with
site supervisor, co-members, teachers, administrators, and
AmeriCorps staff; handle conflict professionally
- Meet state standards in math, reading, and science;
tutor students in said subjects; read out loud with
students; perform light physical activities with youth
- Use online databases; meet deadlines; attend all Corps
events; maintain set schedule at site

provides a variety of opportunities to explore these
interests and gain valuable experience in the public school
setting. Members also receive high-quality pre-service and

work with diverse student populations in schools throughout
Minneapolis. Members work with English Language Learners,
special education students, and students in poverty.

nationally recognized program that allows them to serve in
local communities her and across the country.
