Minnesota Reading Corps (MRC) is an AmeriCorps program that is working to ensure that all Minnesota children are on track to read by the end of 3rd grade.  One in every five 3rd-graders in Minnesota does not read at grade level, and we are doing something about it. We train and place AmeriCorps members in elementary and preschool settings across Minnesota, who in turn provide proven, data-driven literacy instruction to at-risk children.

By joining MRC, you'll not only make a difference in children's lives, but the training and experience you gain will benefit your own career. This is a chance to give back to your community while building valuable career skills and a professional network.

Essential qualification to participate in the Minnesota Reading Corps Program:
  • Experience working with children and demonstrated commitment to the community
  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Excellent level of English language

Top reasons that members like serving in the Minnesota Reading Corps Program:

  • It is great real life experience in school setting that enhances their resume
  • Members earn money for loans or future education
  • Members build relationships with children and help them improve their skills
  • Members connect to their community and professionals in the education field
