ServeMinnesota Welcomes Mohamed Omar To Newly Created Chief Operating Officer Position

MINNEAPOLIS – February 11, 2025 – ServeMinnesota, the state’s commission for AmeriCorps national service, welcomes Mohamed Omar to the leadership team as chief operating officer. He will provide leadership in operational excellence and performance in technological, operational, and financial infrastructure.

Omar began his professional journey in accounting at PricewaterhouseCoopers and expanded his expertise in strategy and operations as investment banker at Goldman Sachs and as management consultant at Guidehouse and MorganFranklin. He then pivoted his expertise to social services, working as a financial executive for the Metropolitan Council and the Greater Minnesota Housing Fund. Most recently, Omar was chief administrative officer and chief of staff for Washburn Center for Children.

Omar is the first Somali American to lead a hospital board in Minnesota; he chairs the board for Hennepin Healthcare System. He is also vice president of the board for WellShare International, which supports community health, and treasurer for CommonBond Communities, an affordable housing nonprofit.

“Mohamed’s vision and experience will strengthen national service operations for Minnesota, helping us to better deliver on our mission,” said ServeMinnesota CEO Julia Quanrud. “His commitment to public service and his track record in strengthening organizational operations and advancing strategy will help us achieve even more for the state.”

Omar holds an MBA in finance and entrepreneurship as well as a master of science in information systems (MSIS) from the Johns Hopkins University’s Carey Business School. Omar participated in the University of Minnesota Humphrey Policy Fellows Program.
